Subaru EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology

Subaru Eye Sight

Subaru's EyeSight Driver Assist Technology has been making waves in the industry for its innovative features, and has helped Subaru become one of the only car companies in Australia to offer a 5-star ANCAP safety rating on every vehicle that they offer.

This is one safety system that's more than just a pretty sight.

Subaru's EyeSight Driver Assist Technology has been making waves in the industry for its innovative features, and has helped Subaru become one of the only car companies in Australia to offer a 5-star ANCAP safety rating on every vehicle that they offer. While it was initially only offered on Subaru's top-of-the-line models, the sheer rave responses it received encouraged Subaru to extend the award-winning technology to all its models.

Your Second Set of Eyes

While it may sound cliché, EyeSight quite literally provides another set of eyes on the road. The core feature the EyeSight Driver Assist Technology is a set of dual-colour cameras that sit inconspicuously near the rearview mirrors, keeping a constant watchful eye for any potential dangers or unanticipated hazards on the road. The comprehensive system works in tandem with innovative features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking and Steering Assist for augmented awareness, unmatched safety and true peace of mind for you and your family.

Technology to Keep You Safe

Picture this -- you’re cruising down the highway when you suddenly notice traffic has slowed to a crawl. Depending on your speed, there's a good chance you'll have to slam your brakes. We've all been there. But what if you didn't pump your brakes in time? With EyeSight technology, there's a whole host of features to keep your vehicle out of harm's way. Adaptive Cruise Control allows the motorist to choose a distance they wish to keep consistent, automatically adjusting the car's speed to maintain your selected distance and keep you a safe distance from the car in front of you. You can activate the system and set the speed like with regular cruise control, but the Subaru EyeSight takes things one step further and automatically adjusts with traffic. EyeSight will automatically set a following distance, brake smoothly as traffic slows and accelerate when traffic thins out. You don't need to constantly pump your brake and accelerate the gas when in traffic - EyeSight already has you covered.

Pre-Collision Braking

Pre-Collision Braking helps to completely avoid or significantly mitigate rear-end collisions by alerting you and applying full braking force in the case of an emergency situation. It's constantly watching and measuring the distance to objects ahead. Should the car in front of you suddenly slow down, EyeSight will sound an alert and flash a visual warning if there's a chance of a collision. If you don't manage to hit your brakes in time, EyeSight takes over, bringing the vehicle to a complete stop even. Pre-Collision Throttle Management, Brake Light Detection and Pre-Collision Brake Assist work in concert to detect objects in front of the vehicle you may hit, and reduces power from the engine to minimize the possible impact force and frontal damage. Rear-end collisions are most common when crawling through congested stop-start city traffic. So imagine a system that notifies you with visual and auditory warnings when our vehicle is still stopped but the vehicle in front of you is already moving in bumper to bumper traffic. With EyeSight you don't have to imagine -- Subaru has included Front Vehicle Start Alert as one of the features in their new models.

Reducing Collisions by 85%

Taken together, EyeSight's unique safety features have earned it the highest possible front crash prevention rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. In fact, EyeSight has been proven to reduce rear-end collisions with injuries by a whopping 85%. Steering Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Sway Warning and Lane Departure Warning monitors your position on the road and alert you if you stray out of your lane. The Subaru EyeSight system actually looks ahead by identifying lane markings on the road. If you start to leave your lane, the system will alert you so you can quickly correct your course. These features are especially useful for long trips where drivers may experience fatigue.

Vision-Assist System

For even more security, motorists can consider the Vision Assist system, available on only certain models, which add an auto-dimming rear view mirror, high-beam assist, rear cross-traffic alert and blind-spot monitoring for the pinnacle of vehicle safety. Blind-spot detection is an innovative feature that uses radar sensors in the back bumper to constantly monitor your blind spot area. If the sensors detect a vehicle is approaching or is in your blind spot, a warning light will appear in your side mirror.

Award Winning Technology

Subaru's EyeSight Driver Assist Technology has won numerous awards for its trailblazing technology. The five engineers who developed EyeSight recevied a prize from the Japanese government in 2012 for science and technology innovation. It's also proven to be very popular with Australians - in 2015, more than 46% of Subaru's overall Australian sales were equipped with EyeSight technology. That number is set to rise, and it's no surprise; the technology is internationally acclaimed and only getting better with each year. Take a ride in one of our Subaru models today to see how EyeSight can make for a safe, secure and superb driving experience.
