The heart and soul of the all-new Subaru Crosstrek owes its vitality to the intersection of two irreplaceable forces – the iconic horizontally-opposed Boxer engine and Symmetrical AWD system. Designed to sit lower and flatter in the engine bay than traditional engines, the 2.0-litre Direct Injection Boxer engine’s unique design delivers less noise and vibration to the cabin, while the low center of gravity improves stability, cornering, and traction with the road.​

The robust and dynamic Subaru Crosstrek power unit has been tweaked to help reduce vibrations, in line with Subaru Crosstrek’s philosophy to embed a human-centred design approach to support superior passenger comfort.

Activated at the touch of a button, X-Mode is standard across the Subaru Crosstrek range, enhances off-road driving adventures by delivering traction in response to the conditions. Once activated, X-Mode’s intelligent electronic system constantly monitors the traction available to each wheel and centralises the control of key components including the engine, transmission and brakes to help manage slippery conditions.​

Choose the setting to match your road or trail conditions with the choice of two different modes available in the Subaru Crosstrek AWD 2.0R, Crosstrek AWD 2.0S and Crosstrek AWD Hybrid S. The driver can operate a host of functions quickly and easily from the steering wheel controls, including EyeSight^® settings such as Adaptive Cruise Control. Simply set the speed you want and the system will monitor the vehicle’s position, while activating steering assistance, accelerator and brake functions if necessary to help keep the vehicle near the centre of its lane. 

Active safety starts with excellent driver visibility, something which is underpinned by the all-new Subaru Crosstrek’s expansive forward vision. By maintaining the Subaru XV’s impressive A pillar design and side upper field of view, excellent vision credentials have been retained. The Driver Monitoring System (DMS)* in the all-new Subaru Crosstrek constantly monitors the driver’s attention, to detect whether their attention is waning or if they are starting to fall to sleep, to help reduce the chance of accidents.

Using near infrared LEDs and a camera, the vigilant DMS watches the driver for signs of fatigue and distraction and can deliver an alert warning to prompt them to refocus on the road ahead.

Drive to the beat of your own drum, knowing Subaru Crosstrek delivers a unique level of protection that is underpinned by the Subaru Global Platform, including the ring-shaped passenger safety cell. This safety cell cocoons occupants to absorb and direct the impact of a collision around the cabin, rather than through it. The chassis structure has also been engineered to include crushable zones, absorbing collision energy to better protect passengers.
